Laylatul Qadr

🌙 Laylatul Qadr Dua

Laylatul Qadr, also known as the Night of Power or Shab e Qadr, is the most blessed night of the entire year. Worship on this single night is better than worship for a thousand months. Allah says in the Holy Quran: "Indeed, We sent it (the Quran) down on the Night of Power. And what will make you realize what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months." (Surah Al-Qadr: 1-3) On this night, duas are accepted, sins are forgiven, and destinies are written. That is why the Prophet ﷺ would perform Itikaf during the last 10 days of Ramadan, staying up all night in worship and supplication. Aisha (RA) narrated: "When the last ten days of Ramadan began, the Prophet ﷺ would tighten his waist belt (devote himself fully to worship), stay up at night, and wake his family." (Sahih Bukhari: 2024) In this guide, you will find the best duas to recite on Laylatul Qadr, the most important supplications from the Quran and Sunnah, and the best times when your dua is most likely to be accepted — all in one place.

The Most Important Dua for Laylatul Qadr

The Prophet ﷺ himself taught this dua specifically for the Night of Power. This is the single most important and well-known dua for Shab e Qadr.

Aisha (RA) said, I asked the Prophet ﷺ —

"O Messenger of Allah! If I know which night is Laylatul Qadr, what should I say on that night?"
The Prophet ﷺ replied — Say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka Afuwwun, tuhibbul afwa, fa'fu anni.

O Allah! You are the One Who pardons, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 3513, Sunan Ibn Majah: 3850

This dua is short but incredibly powerful. It uses Allah's name "Al-Afuww" — the One Who pardons. Al-Afuww doesn't just mean forgiveness — it means Allah completely erases the sin as if it never happened.

Allah's name "Al-Ghafoor" means He covers and forgives sins. But "Al-Afuww" means He wipes the sin away entirely — removing every trace of it from your record.

So on the Night of Power, recite this dua again and again. Say it in your salah, in sujood, in tashahhud, after prayer — keep repeating this beautiful dua throughout the night.

🕐 Best Times to Make Dua on Laylatul Qadr

The entire Night of Power is blessed for making dua. However, there are certain moments during the night when your dua is even more likely to be accepted.

  • The Last Third of the Night (Tahajjud Time)
The last third of the night is the single best time for dua. Allah descends to the nearest heaven every night and says:
"Who will call upon Me so that I may answer them? Who will ask of Me so that I may give them? Who will seek My forgiveness so that I may forgive them?" (Sahih Bukhari: 1145)
On Laylatul Qadr, this time is even more special. So wake up for Tahajjud prayer and pour your heart out to Allah.
  • During Sujood (Prostration)
Sujood is the moment when you are closest to Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration. So make plenty of dua in your sujood." (Sahih Muslim: 482)
On Laylatul Qadr, stay longer in sujood during your prayers and make heartfelt dua.
  • Between the Adhan and Iqamah
Make dua after the Adhan for Maghrib and Isha, before the Iqamah is called. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The dua made between the Adhan and Iqamah is not rejected." (Sunan Abu Dawud: 521)
  • At the Time of Iftar (During Ramadan)
The dua of a fasting person at the time of breaking the fast is accepted. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Three duas are never rejected: the dua of a fasting person at Iftar, the dua of a just ruler, and the dua of an oppressed person." (Sunan At-Tirmidhi: 3598)
  • After Completing Your Salah
Making dua right after finishing your obligatory prayer is highly recommended. You have just been in direct conversation with Allah — now is the perfect time to ask. On Laylatul Qadr, spend extra time in dua after Isha and Tahajjud prayers.
  • When It Rains
    The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Two duas are never rejected: the dua at the time of Adhan and the dua when it is raining." (Mustadrak Al-Hakim: 2534)
If it rains on Laylatul Qadr, that is an even more special moment — use it to make as many duas as you can.
