THE EXCELLENCE OF THE POOR AMONG THE MUHAJIRS (EMIGRANTS)

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr رضي الله عنه narrated, "While I was seated in the mosque ( Masjid Nabawi ) as also a group of the poor muhajirs (emigrants) were seated there in a circle, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came in and sat down facing them. So I too got up (and sat down) towards them (emulating the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and to be able to hear his words to them). The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Glad tidings must be conveyed to the poor emigrants as will make their faces joyful. They will enter paradise forty years before the rich do." Abdullah ibn Amr رضي الله عنه added, "Indeed, I saw their colour shine till I longed to be among them, or one of them." [1]
