NEVER BOAST ON YOUR OWN PAST IGNORANCE

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عُقْبَةَ عَنْ أبي عُقبةَ وَكَانَ مَوْلًى مِنْ أَهْلِ فَارِسَ قَالَ: شَهِدْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُحُدًا فَضَرَبْتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقُلْتُ خُذْهَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا الْغُلَامُ الْفَارِسِيُّ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ: " هَلَّا قُلْتَ: خُذْهَا مِنِّي وَأَنَا الْغُلَامُ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ؟ ". رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُد
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman ibn Abu Uqbah رحمه الله reported that Abu Uqbah رضي الله عنه who was the freedman of the Persians said, "I participated at uhud (in the battle) along with Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم , during which I struck one of the idolaters and remarked, 'Here is one from me, the young Persian.' He (Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم ) turned to me (on hearing me) and asked, 'Why did you not say: Here is one from me, the young Ansari?'" [2]
