Mishkat al-MasabihHadith Number 4660
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَرضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِذَا انْتَهَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَجْلِسٍ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ فَإِنْ بَدَا لَهُ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ فَلْيَجْلِسْ ثُمَّ إِذَا قَامَ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ فَلَيْسَتِ الْأُولَى بِأَحَقَّ مِنَ الْآخِرَةِ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيّ وَأَبُو دَاوُد
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “When one of you ends up at a gathering (or meeting), he must offer salaam. If he is inclined to join them, he may sit down. Then, when he gets up to go, he must offer salaam, for to offer salaam the first time is not in any way better than offering the second salaam.” [2]
